Narratives Project

Initial Exercise - Sins

This exercise is based on the Seven Deadly Sins and is linked to the main theme of Narratives. It is designed to push you out of your comfort zone and possibly get you in touch with your darker side. I suggest that you do research into each of the sins and then narrow this down to one which you feel you will be able to produce the most work from.

You will produce studies from direct observation, take your own photographs to work from or form part of your work and use as many different media as you can (don't just focus on one for the whole exercise). Remember, you are studying the Art, Craft and Design course so you are free to produce work linked to Fine Art, Photography, Graphic Communication, Illustration and Textiles.

The Sins you can use are:

Gluttony
When people eat and drink more than they need to

Greed
A very strong wish to continuously get more of something, especially wealth, status and power

Sloth
Unwillingness to work or make any effort, being lazy and indifferent

Lust
A very powerful feeling of wanting something, usually of a sexual nature

Pride
Belief that you are better, more important or attractive than other people, failing to acknowledge the good work of others

Envy
The feeling that you wish you had something that someone else has and wanting to deprive the other person of this belonging

Wrath
Uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger, presenting in destructiveness and violence
